Werner-Boyce Salt Springs State Park II

As promised, my photographer took me back to Werner-Boyce State Park.  This time we used the State Road 52 entrance which is called "The Black Rail Trail."  We don't know why they call it that as you can see here that the rail is not black. In any case, this is the dog gate.

 

We went and and walked down the dirt road a bit.  My photographer said "Wow!" and took these two pictures.  

We found a Nature Trail.  We started to walk down it but decided it was too muddy. We thought about ignoring the mud and going further but my photographer was concerned about me having muddy paws.  My grandparents said they have wild hogs running around back there.  I wanted to see one but after thinking about it I decided to turn around.

 

 

We walked back to the dirt road and then walked all the way to the end of the dirt road.  It wasn't really that far.  It was hot out.  This park doesn't have a lot of dog amenities.  No showers, baths or water spigots.  They do have a little stand with bags for picking up after dogs who have to do their business.  It was empty.  Well, it was fun but we wanted to get out of the sun.  I had a chance to read the information board on the way out and then hit the road!

My photographer took me to Werner-Boyce Salt Springs State Park but did not take our camera!  What kind of photographer is that?  Anyway, according to Florida State Park's website, you can fish and paddle around this park.  The salt spring itself is said to be 320 feet deep.  Lucky I know how to swim.  The are supposed to be gophers, tortoises, fox, birds and dolphins in the park.  We didn't see any of that but it sure sounded like we were hiking in the jungle.  The park has three entrances.  We tried the Scenic Drive entrance at 10333 Scenic Drive, Port Richey, Fl.  We found a nature trail and walked the entire trail.  It was a big loop back to the parking lot.  My photographer let me be in charge.

This park has two more entrances.  One is called the Black Rail trail head and is off State Road 52.  There is also a Main Gate at 8737 US Highway 19 North.  My photographer says she will take me to both.  It is so hot hot lately that I am not so sure about that!

Weeki Wachee Springs

 

God it's been sooooo long!!!!  Finally I got to go back to a Florida State Park.  Well, kind of.  My photographer and my Aunt took me to Weeki Wachee!!!!  I wanted to see the mermaids but I wasn't allowed in that part of the park.  I did get to see a pretty peacock however.  They brought me around to the trails where dogs are allowed.  We walked and walked.  We saw lots of big elephant ears.  It was really fun being back on a trip and being in natural surroundings!  You have no idea how much I miss doing this!  Well, finally!  Bliss!!!!  I did not see one alligator!!!  It was safe and so fun!!!!

What a nice park.  My mom says its a lot like John Lloyd.  It is in the sense that there are lots of nice dog walks and picnic benches.  I even found a dog wash.  Like all of the parks, I am not allowed on the beach or in the water.  That is ok.  I read the sign.  Nobody was allowed in the water because there is dangerous marine life on the loose.  Sharks.  Man-of-War.  Just as scary as alligators.  Maybe worse.  I enjoyed the view from afar.  The nice volunteer at the park entrance thought I was cute and gave me a cookie.

Oleta River Part 2

Here I am refusing to drink a bowl of fresh water from the dog spigot.  I prefer the brackish water.  My Mom thinks I'm nuts drinking salty water.  I like the salty water.  What's wrong with salty water?

Here I am swimming with the cute boy who thought I was a bear.  His friends said "Look a bear!."  After they saw my Mom they realized I was just a dog.

Here I am drinking water at the dog wash.  I told you this place rocks.  It has everything a dog desires.

Here I am trying to call my friend Roxie to tell her all about it.  What a great park.  A dog phone and all!

Oleta River Part 1

Here I am at one of my favorite parks.  I love this park because they let me get in some of the water.  I am not allowed on the pretty people beach, but I am allowed a dip in kayaking water.  This park rocks.

Here I am walking my Mom along the beach that dogs are allowed to walk on.  Its just as nice as the people beach if you ask me.  It's actually better as its not so crowded with people.

Wekiwa Springs Part 1

Here we are at Wekiwa State Park.  My Mom and my photographer call it a "five star park for sure".  Well, I may beg to differ (you can read the sign can't you)?  But as you can see, I slipped into the river when no one was paying close attention.  I will give them some points for having a dog spigot however.

Blue Springs

Here I am with my Mom at Blue Springs.  We are trying to look for manatees but my photographer keeps distracting us.  "Daphne, look at me.  Daphne!"  Once again I could not go in the water.  This time it was because of manatees.  I don't even know what a manatee is but my mom said they are gentle and like to rub on you.  I'm gentle too so I don't understand why I can't go play with them.

De Leon Springs

Here I am trying to read the sign and learn about how this dry fountain once had water.  Rumor has it that this is the "Fountain of Youth" that Ponce De Leon discovered.  My Mom said "No one names their kid Ponce anymore."

Rock Springs Run

Hmmm, I heard my Mom say they gut game here.  Wild Turkey, wild boar, poor animals like that.  I sure hope they don't gut dogs.  I'm not too sure what I think about this place.  The trees were pretty.

Bill Baggs Cape Florida

Another people park!!!  I have to tell you, it was a very beautiful place but its not fun for dogs!  Again I was not allowed near the beach or in the water.  All I could do was look and wish!  It was hot.  No water spigots!!!  My photographer had to get me water from the restroom while I waited in the car.  My photographer had a hard time taking good photos today as she had the real camera instead of the little "toy."  I kept tugging so she couldn't get a good picture of me with the lighthouse.  On the way home she found a dog beach.  We stopped there and I was finally able to cool down!!!!

We went back to John U. Lloyd.  If you haven't figured it out by now, I'm not a dog!!!!  I am THE BABY!!!  I want to go for a swim and can't because of this silly sign!!!!

Hugh Taylor Birch State park

Who would believe this is in the middle of the city? We walked all thru the woods. My people forgot to bring water so a nice lady gave me some in a red bowl. I was enjoying it until this tiny dog came and started barking at me.

My photographer asked for a Florida State Parks annual pass for Christmas and got it early. I got to go to John U. Lloyd Beach the very first day it came because my photographer thinks I need to lose weight. Look how far she wants me to walk! Where's the beach????

Lake Griffin

We went to visit my grandparents in Bushnell, Fl. We stayed in the La Quinta in Leesburg because they let dogs stay there. My people took me to Lake Griffin State Park for "morning coffee." I couldn't go in the water because the man who called me a "dawg" said they have alligators. I did take a dip in this nice puddle however.

Ichhetucknee Springs

I had such a good time at Ponce de Leon Springs that my people decided to take me to one more before we headed all the way home. They found one called Ichetucknee in Fort White, Fl. This place was real fun for humans but dogs aren't allowed in the water. I tied but Mom held me back.

Ponce De Leon Springs

My first State Park was Ponce de Leon Springs State Park. My people brought me there on our way back from Dallas in August 2007. I could not believe how clear the water is!
